Magic Three and Great Lead
Life or Death
My legs were on fire. I couldn’t get my body to move any faster. I ran like it was my last day on earth. It very well might have been.. I heard my heart thud as if it was hooked up to an amplifier. I knew that within minutes they would have me. I put on an extra burst of speed to get some more distance between me and the guys that chased me. If they got to me it would be all over. Unimaginable pain, starvation, possibly death. I knew the road I was on wouldn’t go on forever. It ended in a what seemed like an endless summit. A tremendous drop, a vast ocean at the bottom, and jagged rocks that stuck out of the water. If I was found we would lose this war. I had the information that my enemy needed. If they found me I knew I would give in. Their ways of torture were so cruel that anybody would give in. I had to escape them.
I looked too my right and to my left. The trees on the side of the road rose into the sky for miles. They danced in the fierce wind. I might be able to climb one and lose the enemies that were on my tail. It was dark though and that would make it difficult to climb. Besides my enemies might see me and climb up as well. They weren’t armed thankfully but I knew that they had knives on them.
The road up ahead forked into two. I ran down the left one and hoped it was the way out of this horrible mess. So many lives lost over such a pointless cause. Why was the world filled with so much hate? I saw the end of the road ahead. It was time to decide what I had to do. Face the angry men behind me or jump and hope that something would catch me. I had to make a quick decision. I put all my strength into getting my legs to move faster and leaped of the edge of the cliff.
The fall lasted for a lifetime. I couldn’t breath, I couldn’t think. The wind burnt my face and there was no way to know when the end would come. But then a stroke of luck came. A narrow stream of water jutted out the side of the cliff. It appeared in my line of sight as I approached the bottom. I did everything in my power to aim towards it. Then I hit it.
Then pain was unimaginable. I suppose it was better than hitting the ground though. I could feel my legs snap as I fell in. To my surprise there was a military boat just up stream. I took a whistle of my belt and blew on it like there was no tomorrow. The boat swept its spot light over the stream until it landed on me. I would finally be safe.
