The Savior

The whole entire building is exploding in flames. I hear fast footsteps running away from the crime scene. I know that my owners are slowly plummeting to their deaths inside the burning house. But there isn’t a way that I could help. The metal chain links attach me to the wooden fence. I hear the sirens from a distance, but what if they don’t come in time?

I sprint to the old fence that looks like it could break any minute. With all of my energy, heart and strength, I race away from the fence. To my surprise, I hear a large crack and half of the chain snaps. I have no idea where or how I am suppose to enter the blazing fire. I kick up the dirt under my paws and dash into my home as fast as I could. Then I walk through the place I’ve lived in for my whole entire life and realize that it is slowly burning to the ground.
“Max?! Is that you?!” Mother says in a weak voice. I give my best shout back and scamper over to her dodging the flames. Fortunately, the rest of my family is all there next to Mother. Right away, I grab my baby sister, and lift her onto my back. I run out, and sit her down on the front lawn.

“Good boy, good boy! We are going to save you family, don’t worry!” says a human dressed in a big heavy black jacket and a bright red hat. I sit down next to my baby sister and lick her burns. She tells me I am the best dog that there could ever be. But I know that I’m not because taking care of your owners is what being a dog is all about. As what feels like many hours pass, the humans that are supposed to save my family finally come out with Mother and Father. But they don’t come out walking and talking; they are put on a rolling bed and put into a car with sirens. The savers took my baby sister, too. So as they shoot fire out at the house, I wait.

“Come here boy! Do you want to go for a ride?” I realize the human is talking to me, and I jump in the car. We drive and drive and finally we come to stop. I jump out of the car hoping that my family is inside the building. But as I walk into this mysterious building, it is filled with dogs stuck in small cages barking to get out. My friends have told me about “dog shelters” but I never thought that I ever be put in one.
