Huge Explosion

“Get off the boat, get off the boat!” my cousin screamed. All I heard were sirens wailing in the distance besides all the shouts from the bystanders. Smoke filled the air and my lungs. It was so thick I could barely see.

Moments earlier…

After a thunderstorm passed, my cousin and I were putting his speedboat back in the water. My dad was backing the truck and boat into the water. My cousin and I were on the boat. “OK that’s good,” my cousin told my dad. He then started up the boat. Seconds later, something near the engine exploded. The boat rocked back and forth. Black rubber was everywhere. It was like confetti coming down all around us. My cousin then jumped off the boat to safety. He instructed me to do the same. I went over to the side of the boat and jumped. I braced myself for impact as I hit the water. Cold water washed over me. When I surfaced I took a deep breath. That was a big mistake. Smoke immediately filled my lungs. I choked on the thick black smoke, heard sirens in the distance coming closer, and felt very weak. Since we weren’t far from shore, I swam over without too much problem.
When I felt solid ground under my feet I turned and looked back at the boat. The back near the engine was on fire. The firemen quickly rushed over to the boat and put out the fire. Even though it was over, my legs were still shaking. Fortunately no one got hurt. This was a day I would never forget.

  1. I thought this was a very god piece and had a very good topic but I didn't get why the cousin said to get off the boat when moments earlier he jumped off the boat and swam to safety . Also, I felt like you ended it to quickly because it sounded like the firemen put the fire out in a minute and it was all over. But i really liked the story it was very suspenseful.
