Advancements in technology may mean a bright future for humans. Some people today are asking the question, “What will technology be like in the future?” In the future, technology has the potential to bring disease free people, gene changing, and aging as a preference. However, will people abuse these powers? If so, there will be significant weaknesses in this future. Technology advancements can be helpful or harmful. First of all, future technology advancement will be excellent because people may be able to live disease free. Many people today are being harmed from diseases like cancer that destroy the body, but in the future, humans won’t have to worry about being vulnerable to diseases. On the other hand, people may abuse this power to cause an enormous amount of damage. This feature can be bad because any person can be abusive with this power. Ray Kurzweil, a scientist says, “We don’t know if people will abuse this power. They may, and in that case, it would be bad for other humans.” What the scientist is trying to say, is that abusing this power would result in a negative action like curing animals or plants that shouldn’t be cured. Freed from worry over disease, humans can focus on life with all cures for all diseases. Not only will humans live disease free, but people will be allowed to change their genes to their choosing. The same scientist, Ray Kurzweil, states, “People will be able to adjust their genes to their preference.” Ray is trying to say anybody can change their weight, height, or hair color and much more. With this outcome, people can even change genders. This is a good way to solve problems instead of asking other people. Basically, people become more independent. However, humans can mishandle this feature by turning taller or larger to harm other humans. Being allowed to change genes is very risky to mankind but people are already willing to take the chance. The future will also bring aging at a speed of what certain people prefer. In the world today, people age how they are intended to at a normal pace but in future times, technology will allow them to choose the pace at which they intend. For example, if humans want to be twelve years old for a long time, they can. If humans want to stay being a toddler, they can. But on the flip side, aren’t people cheating life if they do this? People are not aging at a rate which their human body is intended to do. Not aging may bring happiness to people, but some humans may say they are cheating themselves. Therefore, lack of aging will be helpful to some and cheating to others. In conclusion, future technology will bring disease free people, gene changing, and aging changes. All these features are potentially good but humans have to look on the other side of things and ask questions like, “Won’t technology advancements create catastrophic problems?” Technology advancements are like a roller coaster that has many ups and downs.
