The Other Side

When you look through a telescope,

Yes there is always the conventional way,

But that isn’t the only way.

Have you ever thought

That instead of looking up

You could flip it around

And look the other way?

It may be harder to see,

And it may make you look a bit strange

But in the end,

You win.

You see things from both sides of the telescope,

Where no one else has bothered to look.

As there is more than one side

To every story told,

And more than one set of eyes

To see the world from,

One cannot just assume

That things are always as they seem.

So next time you look through the telescope,

Or read a heroic tale,

Look through the small end and the large end,

And read backwards and forwards.

And in time

I promise you will see

There’s a lot more to things

Than what’s obviously there.

  1. I really like this and I think that it’s saying that most people only look at life one way but there’s another way we just have to look at life another way.

  2. This was a good poem because it used symbolism effectively. The poem compares a telescope to how people look at life and how there are always more than one way to look at things. "You see things from both sides of the telescope,Where no one else has bothered to look.As there is more than one side,To every story told,And more than one set of eyes." This shows that every person has a different perspective, a different way of interpreting things, a different side to every story. Therefore, this was a good poem because the symbolism was used effectively.

  3. I really like this poem because it shows that there are two ways to look at something. Many people don't bother to flip things around and look at it in a different way. This poem shows not to stop looking just after you see one side of something. Therefore this is a good poem because it gives a message and points out something people don't often think about.
